Epilepsy

Working closely with our expert epileptologists, you will hone your skills in diagnosing and managing pediatric and adult patients with seizure disorders, including intractable epilepsy.

During our specialized elective, you will participate in at least one epilepsy outpatient clinic each week and develop expertise in:

  • distinguishing types of seizures based on EEG appearance, historical data and clinical observation, including video recordings
  • characteristics of various epilepsy syndromes
  • epilepsy treatments, including anticonvulsant and surgical, and their adverse effects

You may choose to advance your training in long-term EEG monitoring and surgical management of patients with seizures on the long-term epilepsy monitoring unit at Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo.

Through frequent feedback and case discussions, our expert neurologists will guide you as you evaluate and admit patients, review diagnostic tests (including EEG, CT head, MRI head and drug levels) and plan and provide follow-up care.

Comprehensive, Career-Focused Training

You will develop further expertise through our robust didactic training, continuing your participation in EEG/epilepsy and multidisciplinary epilepsy surgery conferences, building on your required EEG/evoked potentials rotation.
