Endocrinology/Diabetes Fellowship

Kathleen Bethin and Lina Saadeh.

Program director Kathleen Bethin, MD, PhD, with graduated fellow Lina Saadeh, MD.

Our three-year fellowship program allows for strong clinical training and excellent research opportunities across the broad spectrum of pediatric endocrinology and diabetes and is accredited by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

In alignment with recommendations from the Council of Pediatric Subspecialties (CoPS), Association of Pediatric Program Directors (APPD) and the Pediatric Endocrine Society (PES) Program Directors, we have made the following refinements to our interview process:

  1. We will be offering only virtual interviews this year.
  2. We support holistic review of applications, recognizing that access to different clinical, research, extracurricular, work, and other experiences vary significantly at baseline, and are further impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
  3. We recognize that residents may have experienced non-traditional rotations during the pandemic, including virtual learning experiences and on-line educational programming.
  4. We realize that you may have difficulty meeting our usual requirement of 3 pediatric subspecialty letters and will take this into consideration when reviewing your application.
  5. You may be tempted to interview in more programs than in other years. Please speak to your Program Director or local Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship Director as to how many programs that you should apply.
  6. Please cancel any interviews that you no longer wish to attend at least 2 weeks prior to the scheduled date.

Thank you for your interest in Pediatric Endocrinology and especially your interest in our Program!

Education and Training

  • comparison of fasting lipid profiles in preschoolers with and without diabetes and the effects of nutritional counseling on lipid panels
  • effects of enhanced nutritional counseling on BMI percentile in children newly diagnosed with T1DM
  • mechanisms by which sphinogosine-1-phosphate regulates hormone sensitive lipase in adipocytes derived from 3T3-L1 cells
  • the effects of treatment of vitamin D deficiency/ insufficiency on insulin resistance in obese children and adolescents
  • oral health in adolescents with obesity, with and without Type 2 diabetes and salivary inflammatory markers of obesity
