We offer two interested UB medical students a clinical rotation experience in psychiatry during the summer between first and second year.
Participants will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the practice of clinical psychiatry through a one-month rotation experience designed to capture the broad scope of mental health care. They will observe psychiatric practice in a wide variety of settings, including, but not limited to, inpatient, outpatient, intensive outpatient, and emergency psychiatry. They will also participate in debriefing sessions with the externship directors to process clinical experiences and to be familiarized with foundational psychiatric concepts in anticipation of the formal psychiatric didactic module in second year. Applicants should have a strong interest in the field of psychiatry, though no formal past psychiatric or psychological experience is required. All applicants must be current M1’s in good academic standing at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
The program typically runs the month of June.
There is a stipend of $1500.
You must apply by April 1.
