This 583-bed medical center is one of the area’s leading health care providers. It serves as a regional center for trauma, burns, rehabilitation and cardiac care and is the region’s largest safety-net hospital.

Located on the eastern side of Buffalo, this 583-bed acute care center admits patients from the local urban area, as well as a wide referral range that encompasses all eight counties of Western New York.

ECMC is a verified Level 1 Adult Trauma Center and a regional center for burn care, behavioral health services, transplantation, medical oncology and head & neck cancer care, and rehabilitation.

Case presentations span the range of disease states in internal medicine and general surgery, with many critically ill cases.

  • Acute Adolescent Psychiatry Unit

    This acute adolescent inpatient psychiatric unit at ECMC accepts patients ages 12 to 17 who typically have a full scale IQ of at least 65. They represent a broad range of economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Addiction Psychiatry

    A general inpatient psychiatry unit at ECMC hosts our addiction psychiatry rotation.
  • Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT)

    This facility gives you extensive patient exposure: You will participate in 30 to 50 procedures and assess 15 to 25 patients while on the service.
  • Inpatient Services

    Inpatient services at ECMC give you opportunities to rotate through three different adult psychiatric units, one of which is a dedicated geriatric psychiatry unit.
  • Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP)

    This service sees close to 9,000 patients annually, the highest number of any CPEP in New York State.
