Our staff — including Mark Orlowski, John Franke, Michael Fletcher and Brian Koyn — have the expertise to handle your needs in areas including instrument modification and repair as well as custom equipment design and fabrication.

Services

The Health Science Instrument Shops provide:

  • instrument repair
  • custom equipment design and fabrication
  • instrument modification
  • instrument testing, calibration and diagnosis

Our designer-technicians consult with you to recommend repairs or replacement and will install manufacturers’ replacement parts to prevent you from having to ship apparatuses for repair.

We are available to customers on campus, and we make on-site visits to all UB affiliated hospitals.

Mechanical Instrument Design and Repair

We design instruments from teaching models to custom lab equipment and fabricate them to your needs. Items purchased elsewhere can be repaired or altered, and we can diagnose and address problems with wear.

Mills, lathes, punches, welding equipment and woodworking tools permit us to build and repair items made from stainless steel, aluminum, brass, plastics, sheet metal and wood. We can also perform minor glass work.

Electronic Instrument Repair and Alteration

We repair and alter instruments to researchers’ needs. Instrumentation we repair and alter includes but is not limited to:

  • centrifuges
  • spectrophotometers
  • scintillation counters
  • chromatography equipment
  • CO2 incubators
  • DNA apparatus

Rainin Pipette Calibration

We stock the necessary supplies to recalibrate Rainin pipettes. Rainin pipettes should be checked and calibrated to factory specifications annually.

We provide a printout verifying the percent error of their pipettes once they have been serviced.

Reuse and Salvage

We use environmentally-conscious, budget-friendly sustainable materials practices. We reuse parts and resources whenever possible and accept scrap items and discarded apparatuses.

Contact us before consigning instrumentation to recycling.
