Twenty-two faculty members with a variety of clinical and research experience — representing nine medical school departments — have joined the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences over the past several months.
Osama Almadhoun, MD, is an associate professor of pediatrics and chief of the Division of Gastroenterology and Nutrition.
Almadhoun is medical director of the Pediatric Gastroenterology and Infusion Center at Oishei Children’s Hospital. He completed a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology at the University of Rochester Medical Center and a residency at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital. He earned his medical degree at Jordan University of Science and Technology. He is a member of the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition.
Melissa A. Bohonos, MD, is a clinical assistant professor of ophthalmology.
She treats a variety of eye conditions and has a special interest and expertise in glaucoma and cataract surgery. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Glaucoma Society. She completed a glaucoma fellowship at Indiana University and an ophthalmology residency at Boston University. She earned her medical degree at Morehouse School of Medicine.
Susan M. Daoust, MD, is a clinical assistant professor of orthopaedics with expertise in foot and ankle surgery.
Using a whole-body approach to foot and ankle pain, Daoust treats a wide variety of problems, including bunions, forefoot deformities, foot and ankle arthritis, trauma, post traumatic and congenital deformities. Daoust gained years of experience as a general orthopedist in the U.S. Air Force and went on to complete the foot and ankle fellowship in the Department of Orthopedics. She also undertook residency training and earned her medical degree at UB.
Tildabeth Doscher, MD, is a clinical assistant professor of family medicine who specializes in preventive medicine and addiction medicine.
Doscher practices in clinical settings including a methadone treatment program, an outpatient comprehensive substance use disorder facility and an extended stay residential facility. She completed UB’s addiction medicine fellowship and now directs the program.
Basem S. Goueli, MD, PhD, is a clinical associate professor of medicine and the associate chief of hematology/oncology.
Goueli is a strong proponent of clinical trials, experimental therapeutics and precision oncology. He is the director of hematology and medical oncology for Great Lakes Cancer Care. At Stanford University, Goueli completed a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology and a postdoctoral fellowship in biochemistry. He completed his internal medicine residency at The George Washington University, and he earned his medical degree and doctoral degree at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine.
Suzanne C. Griffith, MD, is a clinical assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology.
Griffith’s specific interests and expertise include low and high risk obstetric care, postpartum care, contraception, abnormal uterine bleeding, uterine fibroids, minimally invasive surgery and menopause. She completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology and earned her medical degree at SUNY Upstate Medical University.
Bridget K. Hughes, MD, is a clinical assistant professor of pediatrics.
She completed a pediatrics residency at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, and she earned her medical degree at the University of Rochester. She is a member of the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Mojdeh S. Kappus, MD, is a clinical assistant professor of surgery.
Kappus completed a fellowship in advanced gastrointestinal/minimally invasive surgery at Harvard Medical School/Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. She undertook general surgery residency training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and earned her medical degree at UB. She is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.
Svetlana Primma Eckert, MD, is a clinical assistant professor of neurology.
She was a neuroimmunology, multiple sclerosis and neuroimaging fellow at UB and also completed UB’s medical education program.
Andrew J. Prout, MD, is a clinical assistant professor of pediatrics.
He specializes in critical care medicine and is a member of associations including the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Society for Critical Care Medicine. He completed a fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. He undertook residency training at the University of Michigan, and he earned his medical degree from Wayne State University.
Ibrahim Sayyid, MD, is assistant professor of medicine specializing in internal medicine.
He completed his residency at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital and earned his medical degree at Allama Iqbal Medical College in Pakistan. He is a member of the American College of Physicians and the Society of Hospital Medicine.
Sarah J. Ventre, MD, is a clinical assistant professor of pediatrics.
Ventre is a member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society and the American Academy of Pediatrics. She completed a pediatrics residency at the University of Rochester and earned her medical degree at SUNY Upstate Medical University.
Nabila F. Azam, MD, is an assistant professor of medicine who undertook residency training at Michigan State University and completed medical school at Deccan College of Medical Sciences in India.
Nnaemeka Ukwuoma, MD, is an assistant professor of medicine. He completed his residency at SUNY Upstate Medical University and earned his medical degree at Medical University of the Americas. He completed UB’s geriatrics fellowship.
Alexandra M. Doane, DO, is a clinical instructor of emergency medicine.
