Gambacorta Named Interim AVP for Interprofessional Education

I am pleased to share that Joseph E. Gambacorta, DDS, has been appointed as interim assistant vice president of Office of Interprofessional Education at the University at Buffalo.

In his new position, he will lead a team of exceptional and innovative educators from our schools of dental medicine, law, management, medicine, nursing, pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences, public health and health professions, and social work.

He will be involved in the development of educational materials, programs and activities for our students, faculty, clinicians, and community partners.

As a member of the interprofessional leadership team, Dr. Gambacorta has engaged several units across the UB Academic Health Center to offer collaborative practice experiences to students and faculty.

He is involved in research projects evaluating the impact of interprofessional forums on dental medicine and has presented numerous abstracts and posters on to how to improve interprofessional practice initiatives. 
 
Currently the associate dean for academic and faculty affairs at the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Gambacorta has been a faculty member of the School of Dental Medicine since 2002. He has also served as the associate dean for its clinical affairs from 2012-2021, and has served in instructor, assistant clinical professor, associate clinical professor, and professor roles in restorative dentistry since 2006.

A 1993 graduate of the UB School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Gambacorta will receive his Master of Public Health, Community Health and Behavior, from UB this December. He also completed a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences from UB in 1989 and his General Practice Residency at Millard Fillmore Hospital in 1994.

In addition, Dr. Gambacorta is the faculty advisor for Buffalo Outreach and Community Assistance, a public health organization that unifies students and professionals to promote dental education and deliver care to those in need. Since 2006, he has led several outreach missions to a number of international and domestic destinations.
 
Very active in organized dentistry and the UB Dental Alumni Association (UB-DAA), Dr. Gambacorta is currently the president of the Eighth District Dental Society and Chair of the Council on Continuing Dental Education and Licensure for the New York State Dental Association. He is past president of the UB-DAA and continues to serve on the executive board.
