Health Care’s Future Unfolding at Jacobs School

Greetings Jacobs School friends!

Last week, I gave my second annual State of the School Address, highlighting the Jacobs School’s accomplishments over the past year.

I was thrilled to see a record number of attendees there, including faculty, staff, students, donors, alumni and many new faces. We’ve grown significantly since last year, hiring over 120 new faculty since July 2022, contributing to the University at Buffalo's largest cohort of new faculty in half a century.

Many of these individuals bring with them a significant research portfolio, which is a core component of our school’s strategic plan. Research informs how we educate students and advance knowledge to solve challenges and improve well-being locally and globally.

To guide us through the ever-changing health care landscape over the next five years, I’m excited to share more about our new strategic plan, which is built on four pillars: education, research, clinical care, and community engagement, DEI, and workforce development. This plan will propel us to become a pioneering school of medicine and biomedical sciences revered in our industry.

As our reputation grows, so do the caliber of speakers who choose to visit the Jacobs School. Just in the last month, we’ve been honored to host the Henrietta Lacks Family; Barbara Ross-Lee, DO; and Rebecca Wells, MD.

I look forward to seeing what the future holds for our school, a leader in health care and a beacon of hope for our trainees, educators, scientists, clinicians, patients, and community.
