Match Day – Celebrating Our Future Physicians!

Match Day spelled out with balloons.

Dear Jacobs School Community,

It fills me with immense pride and joy to share in the celebration of our fourth-year medical students every year on Match Day.

Today, as our 170 students eagerly learned their residency destinations, they were not alone. They were surrounded by the support of their families and friends, whose love and encouragement have been their steadfast companions throughout their medical journeys.

Notably, 27 percent of the students matched in Buffalo for residency training. We see this as a testament to their dedication to our community, the City of Good Neighbors, and their dedication to contributing to our robust health care systems. These individuals are not just training here; they are investing in the future of our city, embracing the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the health and well-being of our residents.

By continuing their training in Western New York, these future physicians directly contribute to improving health care access and addressing gaps in care delivery, especially for underserved communities. Residency training further strengthens our collaboration with local hospital partners, fostering an environment where innovation thrives, and excellence is the standard.

From the faculty and staff of the Jacobs School to the warmth of their homes, our students have been embraced by a community that believes in their potential to transform lives and shape the future of medicine. As the envelopes were torn open and cheers erupted, it was a testament to the dedication, resilience and determination that have brought them to this extraordinary moment.

In Buffalo and beyond, our students are not just embarking on a new chapter in their medical training – they are joining a legacy of excellence and compassion that defines our institution. Whether they choose to remain in our beloved city or spread their wings to new horizons, they carry with them the values of service, integrity, and innovation that are the hallmarks of a Jacobs School education.

As they celebrate with loved ones and embrace the opportunities that lie ahead, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to each and every one of our students. Your achievements today are a testament to your hard work, dedication and commitment to the healing profession.

As you embark on this next phase of your journey, know that you carry with you the hopes and aspirations of all those who have supported you along the way. May you continue to shine brightly, inspire others, and make a lasting impact on the lives of patients and communities around the world.

Congratulations, Class of 2024, and welcome to the next chapter of your extraordinary journey in medicine.

With great pride,
