Pulmonary Hypertension Centers

William J. Gibbons, MD, in a pulmonary clinic.

At our dedicated pulmonary clinics, William J. Gibbons, MD, is committed to providing the highest standard of care using proven treatments and pioneering therapies.

We are committed to evaluating and managing patients with pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary arterial hypertension. Our faculty actively participate in clinical research to find the most up-to-date methods of treating pulmonary hypertension patients.

Experts in our division have extensive experience in clinical research and in-depth knowledge about complex medical therapies for pulmonary hypertension. The director of our pulmonary hypertension program, who also directs our pulmonary vascular disease program, is one of the few pulmonary hypertension care physician-consultants in upstate New York.

In conjunction with our pulmonary and cardiology consultants and other health care staff, the director of our pulmonary hypertension program sees patients at a dedicated pulmonary clinic, UBMD Internal Medicine at Amherst, NY, and at our outpatient Heart and Lung Center at Buffalo General Medical Center.

To execute clinical, physiologic and therapeutic development studies related to pulmonary arterial hypertension, we:

  • perform procedures including cardiac catheterization
  • employ techniques such as two-dimensional echocardiography
  • conduct tests including pulmonary function testing and six-minute walk testing
