Roswell Park combines providing comprehensive cancer care with conducting vital research into cancer, with more than 120 beds and an extensive outpatient practice. Its integration of research, treatment and educational programs have met rigorous national standards and made fundamental contributions to reducing the burden of cancer. Patients visit it from all parts of Western New York and northern Pennsylvania.

The institute’s consistent success in these areas have earned it the National Cancer Institute’s designation of “comprehensive cancer center.” It is the only facility in Upstate New York to hold this honor and one of only 40 such centers in the United States.

Training

At RPCI, you’ll have opportunities to learn about about state-of-the art imaging and diagnostics. 

Our RPCI training site familiarizes you with patients undergoing diagnostic testing for cancer. You will work with patients who are developing complications from gastric cancer treatment and individuals whose complications are progressing.

Procedures

Working at RPCI enables you to expand your knowledge about endoscopic procedures that diagnose, evaluate, stage, treat and palliate malignant and pre-malignant conditions of the gastrointestinal tract.

You'll gain exposure to procedures including:

  • endoscopic ultrasound
  • endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography
  • cholangioscopy
  • endoscopic mucosal resection
  • enteral stenting
  • ablation of Barrett’s esophagus
  • double-balloon enteroscopy

Research

At RPCI, you'll work alongside faculty who have research interests in areas including:

  • optimal management of submucosal masses of the gastrointestinal tract
  • the effectiveness of enteral stents for malignant bowel obstruction
  • trends of the use and quality of screening and surveillance colonoscopy for the prevention of colorectal cancer
