Message from the Program Director

“It’s gratifying to hear so many alumni tell me how exceptional orthopaedics training is here at UB,” program director Jeremy Doak, MD, notes.

Our attentive faculty, leading-edge curriculum and stimulating research opportunities form a rewarding learning environment that will thoroughly prepare you for practice in orthopaedics.

Our current residents report that our collegial, balanced program makes for a beneficial training experience. I invite you to explore the benefits and advantages our residency has to offer.

Undertake Comprehensive Rotations

Our clinical rotations strengthen your ability to diagnose and manage the wide range of acute and chronic injuries you’ll encounter as an orthopaedic specialist. You’ll care for patients suffering from conditions including foot and ankle injuries, congenital and developmental spine problems, soft tissue tumors, bone cancers and a variety of fracture types.

We are proud to offer training in all orthopaedic subspecialties. Not all programs are able to provide their residents with such comprehensive experience.

Immerse Yourself in Diverse Conferences and Lectures

Our didactic curriculum will enhance your training with specialized coverage of key areas — including interesting cases, fractures, anatomy, sports medicine and orthopaedic oncology — while helping you keep abreast of new research.

We invite nationally recognized guest speakers to present at some of our conferences, exposing you to new ideas and current advances.

These meetings are valuable learning opportunities because they will impel you to reflect on the multitude of ways the topics at hand integrate into clinical experiences.

Experience Independent Learning, Quality Mentoring

We’ll give you opportunities to act a primary provider for patients. For instance, training in our continuity clinics will give you experience playing an active role in patient management.

Our faculty members will make themselves readily available to you throughout your time in our program, but we’ll help you focus on becoming an independent practitioner.

Benefit From Different Clinical Settings

When you graduate, you’ll be well prepared to succeed in any clinical environment.

Our affiliation with a variety of clinical sites means that we can select the ideal environment for your training — from an urban hospital to private offices — where you’ll receive one-on-one mentoring.

We strive to provide you with rewarding clinical training, challenging and thorough surgical experience and research opportunities. Take a look around our website, and feel free to contact me with questions.

My best regards,

Jeremy P. Doak, MD
