Forensic Mental Health Services provides care to a large incarcerated individual population across two facilities in Erie County, including to individuals with serious mental illness.
Services include assessment, psychiatric care, discharge planning and mental health services, as well as court-ordered evaluations. Interns will gain extensive experience in completing court-ordered evaluations, including competency to stand trial (per the Dusky Standard) and mental health evaluations. Interns will facilitate interviews and write reports for these evaluations.
Opportunities may also include conducting psychological assessments, providing treatment, and facilitating psycho-educational groups to incarcerated individuals. Interns may also gain experience with other forensic evaluations, including fitness for duty for law enforcement.
