9 Faculty Members Join 5 Medical School Departments

Nine faculty members with a variety of clinical and research experience — representing five medical school departments — have joined the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences over the past several months.

Modhi Alkhaldi, MD

Modhi Alkhaldi, MD, is a clinical assistant professor of neurology who specializes in epilepsy and neurophysiology. 

Her clinical research interests include seizure semiology, women and epilepsy, epilepsy surgery, and epilepsy in critical care settings.

She completed a fellowship in clinical epilepsy at Case Western Reserve University. She completed residencies at both Case Western Reserve University and Tufts Medical Center. She was a postdoctoral research fellow at Johns Hopkins University, and she earned her medical degree at Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University, formerly known as the University of Dammam.

Mark Dy-Liacco, MD

Mark Dy-Liacco, MD, is a clinical associate professor of surgery.

Dy-Liacco has research expertise in the areas of liver, kidney, and pancreas transplantation; hepatobiliary surgery; and surgical critical care.

He completed fellowships at Duke University Medical Center. He completed his residency at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, and he earned his medical degree at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Glenn T. Leonard Jr., MD

Glenn T. Leonard Jr., MD, is a clinical associate professor of pediatrics who specializes in pediatric cardiology. 

He completed a fellowship in interventional pediatric cardiac catheterization at Baylor College of Medicine and a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at the University of Florida.

He completed UB’s pediatrics residency, and he earned his medical degree at St. George’s University.

Jessica Martinolich, MD

Jessica Martinolich, MD, is a clinical assistant professor of surgery.

She completed a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.

She completed a general surgery residency at Albany Medical Center, and she earned her medical degree at Albany Medical College. 

Joseph D. Orie, MD

Joseph D. Orie, MD, is a clinical professor of pediatrics and chief of the Division of Cardiology.

He completed a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. He completed a pediatrics residency at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, and he earned his medical degree at Georgetown University.

Mujeeb O. Shittu, PhD

Mujeeb O. Shittu, PhD, is a clinical assistant professor of biotechnical and clinical laboratory sciences.

Shittu earned his doctorate in biochemistry and molecular biology at Michigan Technological University.

Naheed Alam, MD, is an assistant professor of medicine.

Elie A. Nehme, MD, is an assistant professor of medicine. 

Mahfuz Yonis, MD, is an assistant professor of medicine.
