The Diabetes-Endocrinology Center of Western New York is led by endocrinologist Paresh Dandona, MD, UB Distinguished Professor of Medicine, who has garnered an international reputation for his research findings that challenge the long-held belief that use of insulin leads to atherosclerosis, heart attacks and strokes.

Dandona has developed a therapy involving insulin for limiting damage during a heart attack that is being tested in a clinical trial involving 90 medical centers in the U.S. and Latin America.

The Diabetes-Endocrinology Center is operated by a team of specialist physicians, nurses, diabetes educators and dietitians. Ongoing clinical and translational research focuses on management and control of diabetes and the prevention of diabetes-related complications.
