The academic phase of the preventive medicine training begins on or about July 1 of the PGY-3.
During this phase, you will take graduate courses leading to a Master of Public Health degree in your choice of five concentrations or a Master of Science degree in epidemiology from the UB School of Public Health and Health Professions. You may participate in the course work concurrent with clinical experiences.
All residents must complete introductory courses in epidemiology, biostatistics, health behavior, health care organization and environmental healt—regardless of concentration. Additional requirements include one upper-level epidemiology course, one upper-level biostatistics course and one advanced course in health care administration. You may also select from numerous elective courses depending on the degree concentration you choose.
