New Faculty Join Eight Medical School Departments

Nineteen faculty members with clinical and research experience have joined the departments of Biomedical Informatics, Family MedicineMedicine, Orthopaedics, Pathology and Anatomical Sciences, Pediatrics, Physiology and Biophysics, and Psychiatry.

John C. Hu, MD, PhD

John C. Hu, MD ’17, PhD, is a clinical assistant professor of medicine.

He completed an infectious disease fellowship at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, as well as an internal medicine residency at the Jacobs School.

He received both his medical degree and his doctoral degree in microbiology and immunology from the Jacobs School.

His research focuses on emergent pathogens and  infectious diseases.

Sarah DiPalma MD; Pediatric Emergency Medicine; Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo; 2022.

Sarah E. DiPalma, MD

Sarah E. DiPalma, MD, is a clinical assistant professor of pediatrics.

She completed a pediatric emergency fellowship, pediatric residency and internship, all at the Jacobs School.

Sara Lowmaster PhD; Department of Psychiatry; Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo; 2022.

Sara Lowmaster, PhD

Sara Lowmaster, PhD, is an assistant professor of psychiatry.

She was a postdoctoral fellow at Boston University School of Medicine/VA Boston Healthcare System.

Lowmaster also completed an internship and predoctoral Internship in clinical psychology at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School.

She received her doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Texas A&M University.

Thomas Suchyna PhD; Research Associate Professor; Department of Physiology and Biophysics; Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo; 2022.

Thomas M. Suchyna, PhD

Thomas M. Suchyna, PhD, is a research associate professor of physiology and biophysics.

He received his doctoral degree in connexin electrophysiology from the University at Buffalo.

His research focuses on membrane mechanical signaling complexes and their regulation by the cytoskeleton. He has a particular interest in the regulation of ion channels by mechanical stress.

Suchyna’s lab leverages imaging, genetics, molecular biology and peptide chemistry techniques to study mechanical stress and signaling in muscle and cartilage cells. 

Vincent Tutino PhD; Research Assistant Professor; Department of Pathology and Anatomical Sciences; Department of Neurosurgery; Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo; 2022.

Vincent M. Tutino, PhD

Vincent M. Tutino, PhD, is an assistant professor of pathology and anatomical sciences.

He is also an affiliated assistant professor of biomedical engineering.

He received his doctoral degree in biomedical engineering from the University at Buffalo.

Tutino also received a certificate in fundamentals & applications of clinical and translational research from Harvard University.

His lab resides in the Canon Stroke and Vascular Research Center, where he directs the Hemodynamics and Vascular Biology Lab, leading a multidisciplinary group of graduate students, post-docs and technicians.

Bebu Ram, MD, is a clinical assistant professor of pathology and anatomical sciences.

He completed a surgical oncology fellowship at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Ram completed an anatomic and clinical pathology residency at NYU Langone Hospital — Long Island.

He received his medical degree from Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences in Pakistan.

Shaily Amin, MD, is a clinical assistant professor of psychiatry.

Remon Bebawee, MD, is an assistant professor of medicine.

James P. Farrell, MD, is a clinical assistant professor of orthopaedics.

Gillian A. Franklin, MD, PhD, is an assistant professor of biomedical informatics.

Kendria C. Hall, MD, is an assistant professor of biomedical informatics.

Hui Tung Tony Lin, MD, is a clinical assistant instructor in family medicine.

Ashley M. McCorkle, MD, is an assistant professor of medicine.

Parikshit Padhi, MD, is a clinical assistant professor of medicine.

Kenneth Schmidt, MD, is a clinical assistant professor of pediatrics.

Bilal Shoaib, MD, is an assistant professor of medicine.

Andrew P. Stegemann, DO, is a clinical assistant professor of orthopaedics.

Alia Syed, DO, is a clinical assistant professor of psychiatry.

Matthew Wiese, MD, is a clinical assistant professor of pediatrics.
