Pediatric Urgent Care

This rotation places you in a dedicated pediatric urgent care facility, where you’ll diagnose and treat acute illnesses and injuries.

You’ll learn how to respond to the physical, psychological and emotional needs of pediatric patients with non-life-threatening medical emergencies during this four-week rotation.

Board-certified pediatricians will train you, guiding you through the principles of effective case management in the urgent care setting.

Procedures Learned

During this rotation, you’ll demonstrate proficiency in:

  • bladder catheterization
  • burn care
  • establishing intravenous access to administer fluids, blood or medication
  • foreign body removal
  • laceration repair
  • wound debridement

Conditions Seen

You’ll learn how to diagnose and treat children with:

  • injuries related to abuse
  • allergic reactions
  • asthma exacerbations
  • concussions
  • dehydration
  • fevers of unknown origin
  • fractures
  • seizures
  • sepsis
