Intake and Interview

Our Intake and Interview course is a consultation clinic for our first-year fellows; you’ll begin by observing a master clinician engaging in the comprehensive psychiatric evaluation of children, adolescents and families.

As the series progresses, you’ll practice core skills in engagement and developmentally appropriate child and adolescent psychiatric assessment with the supervision and guidance of a master clinician. During this course, you’ll gain experience working with patients referred for consultation from local primary care providers.

When you’re working a case, your fellow trainees and an attending physician will observe through a two-way mirror as you and an attending work a case with a patient and family in an adjacent therapy room. At the conclusion of the assessment, we conduct a group debriefing. We record all sessions to help you gain perspective on them and use them as learning tools.
