OPH 802 Advanced Ophthalmology Skills, 4 credits

This 4-week elective will allow students who have already completed OPH800 an opportunity to enhance their skills in ophthalmology.

Students will spend 4 weeks in the Ophthalmology department, with either a focus on pediatric or adult ophthalmology, practicing advanced examination skills such as indirect ophthalmoscopy, refraction, applanation tonometry, and retinoscopy. Students will also learn to interpret diagnostic tests such as visual fields and optical coherence tomography (OCT).

They will have an opportunity to examine patients on a more independent level compared to the role of the student in OPH800, such as obtaining histories, examining patients and presenting findings to the attending. Students will also be expected to present a topic at the department grand rounds during this rotation.
