Cardiology

This inpatient-outpatient experience supplements your training in the ICU and on your Family Medicine Inpatient Service.

In consultation with a cardiologist, you’ll develop the decision-making skills necessary to care for, and refer, cardiac patients.

As you improve your ability to take cardiovascular histories and perform cardiovascular physical exams, you’ll learn about the invasive and noninvasive procedures commonly performed by cardiologists. You’ll use a range of tests — including stress tests, echocardiograms, EKGs and tilt table tests — to diagnose and manage cardiac conditions.

Your 4-week cardiology rotation also gives you a deeper understanding of care aimed at preventing cardiovascular disease.

In addition, you’ll learn when you need to transfer rural cardiac patients to tertiary cardiology services in another facility.
