Behavioral Medicine

The rotation trains you to manage your patients’ mental health conditions and related concerns.

In the behavioral health unit at Olean General Hospital, you’ll diagnose, treat and refer adults and children with psychiatric disorders and related concerns, such as alcoholism and substance abuse.

You’ll learn how to interview patients with behavioral health concerns and manage their care through behavioral health counseling, group therapy and team approaches, as well as with psychoactive drugs.

You’ll review cases and learn about behavioral health programs available in our area, especially those for children.

You’ll gain competence caring for a broad range of patients with sensitivity to their culture, sexual orientation, personal circumstances and stage of life.
