Dermatology

You’ll train in a high-volume dermatology clinic, diagnosing and managing a wide variety of skin diseases and cutaneous manifestations of systemic disease.

Working one-on-one with a dermatologist, you’ll learn how to clearly describe and differentiate skin lesions, take a dermatalogical history, perform procedures and interact with specialists.

Your preceptor is one of our rural region’s only dermatologists, so you’ll care for patients with a vast array of skin conditions and gain proficiency performing numerous procedures, using the full range of treatment modalities.

Procedures Learned

You’ll learn how to perform such procedures as:

  • cryosurgery
  • KOH tests
  • biopsies (punch, shave, incisional and excisional)
  • I&D abscesses
  • Wood’s lamp examinations

Conditions Seen

You’ll learn how to diagnose and treat patients with conditions including:

  • pigmented lesions
  • papulosquamous lesions
  • infections and infestations
  • impetigo
  • verrucas and condyloma
  • allergies
  • pemphigus and pemphigoid
  • sebaceous cysts
  • ungual infections
  • alopecia

You’ll learn how to manage skin manifestations associated with:

  • syphilis
  • SLE
  • scleroderma
  • diabetes
  • peripheral vascular disease
  • Addison’s disease
  • neurofibromatosis
