Hospitalist Inpatient

You’ll gain additional experience in the inpatient setting during this elective, supervised primarily by board-certified family medicine and internal medicine faculty.

You’ll evaluate patients in the emergency room for admission, determine the necessity for inpatient care and the advisability of outpatient management. You’ll coordinate transition of care with other attending physicians and learn to anticipate lapses in care.

In addition to patients in the emergency department, you’ll see those in the:

• ICU/CCU
• medical/surgical unit
• newborn nursery
• behavioral health unit

Along with the attending physician, you’ll interact directly with consultants in:

• endocrinology
• pulmonary care
  
• hematology
• gastroenterology
• infectious disease
• rheumatology
• nephrology
• allergy
• immunization
• neurology

4 weeks
