Oncology/Hematology

You’ll become familiar with treating patients with hematologic disorders and providing them with subspecialty consultations.

You’ll be able to demonstrate an understanding of the pathogenesis, epidemiology, clinical expression, treatment and prognosis of the full range of hematologic diseases, common and uncommon.

You’ll use morphology and microscopic examination to help diagnose patients with hematologic disorders. You’ll learn how to recognize the need for subspecialty consultations and what to expect from such consultations.

  • inherited coagulation abnormalities including thrombophilia

  • inherited hemoglobin disorders
  • Hodgkin’s Disease
  • non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
  • acute leukemias
  • myelodysplastic disorders
  • HIV-related related hematologic diseases and malignancies
  • hemochromatosis and other iron metabolism disorders
